Introduction

MAHSA University provides Wi-Fi facility based on best effort policy for all the on campus residents. However, the University is unable to guarantee a 100% high speed of Wi-Fi coverage during peak hours.

What are the possible causes of the Wi-Fi disruption?

  • Congestion is the most common cause due to high video streaming activities during peak hours.
  • Power failure. All WiFi equipment will be stop functioning in the event of power failure or sudden surge to protect from further damaging.
  • Personal device malfunction or failure. For example: - Notebook/Laptop, Mobile Phone, Access Point (AP) and switches. This is rare.
What is the internet speed that you can expect based on best effort policy?

5Mbps & above per connection.

What are the things that you should avoid?

  • Avoid downloading big files or video streaming during peak hours.
  • Peak hours are from 7pm to 12pm and subject to change based on users’ behavior.
  • Do not move or relocate any Access Point (AP).
What should you do in the event of Wi-Fi disruption?

  • If it is caused by power failure, wait for the power to resume. Proceed to item 2 if you still face the disruption after the power resumes.
  • Check with the nearest Access Point (AP) if the 4 lights turn on/2 lights are turned on/no lights are turned on.
  • Capture the error message from your notebook/laptop if possible.
  • Report the disruption with the above items 2 and 3 via e-ticket http://residence.mahsa.edu.my or in Residences WhatsApp Group Chat. Please provide your Full Name, Hostel Block, Room No, Mobile Number and Email Address for further IT support.
